Printed Fence Screens: A Buyer’s Guide (Sizes, Materials, Printing)

Printed fence screens are one of the most cost-effective signs a contractor, school or business can buy: they cover a lot of fence, they work every hour of the day, and they solve a practical problem (privacy, wind and dust) at the same time. But “fence screen” covers a wide range of products, from knitted shade cloth with a small logo to full-color graphics printed edge to edge. This guide explains what to look for so the screen you order fits the fence, survives the weather and looks the way you pictured it.

What is a printed fence screen?

A printed fence screen is a mesh panel fastened to a chain-link or temporary fence, usually with zip ties through grommets along the edges, and printed with a logo, rendering, sponsor panels or a message. Plain screens give you privacy; a printed screen adds branding and information. On a construction site that might be the developer’s rendering and the GC’s logo. At a ballfield it’s the school mascot and sponsor names. At a storage yard it’s the company name and phone number repeated every few feet.

Materials: why mesh, and which weight

A fence line can run hundreds of feet, and solid material on that much fence acts like a sail. Mesh is woven with open space so wind passes through, which protects both the screen and the fence posts. At Quiet Valley Products we print fence screening on PVC-coated polyester mesh in two weights:

  • 8 oz mesh: lighter and economical. A good choice for short projects, events and seasonal use.
  • 9 oz mesh: heavier, with higher tensile strength and a 55%–90% shade factor. It gives more privacy and holds up better on long-term jobsites. If you’re unsure, 9 oz is the safer pick.

You’ll also see knitted HDPE (polyethylene) screens on the market. They’re fine for plain privacy, but their textured surface limits what can be printed, and many suppliers will only print a solid-color vector logo on them, with no photos or renderings. If your artwork has photos, gradients or fine detail, choose a coated polyester mesh.

Sizes: measure the fence, not the roll

Many stock logo screens come in fixed rolls, such as 50 ft long at one or two heights, and you stitch the run together from those pieces. Custom printed fence screens are made to your measurements instead. We UV print seamless heights up to 16 feet, so a 6 ft, 8 ft or 10 ft fence gets one continuous piece with no seam through the artwork, in the length your run needs.

Tips for measuring:

  • Measure each fence run between gates and corners separately. Gates usually get their own panel.
  • Most buyers order a screen slightly shorter than the fence fabric so it sits clear of the top rail and the ground.
  • Note where posts fall if your artwork has text that shouldn’t land on a post.
  • For walls, scaffolds or building faces taller than 16 ft, look at Building Wraps and Oversized Banners, made from joined panels that read as one image.

Printing: logo on a color vs. full color

There are two main approaches to custom fence screen printing, and choosing between them is mostly about your artwork.

Logo on a colored mesh

Your logo is printed on a stock mesh color such as black, navy, royal blue, red or forest green. White ink on black or navy is the classic contractor look: high contrast, readable from across the street, and clean when repeated down a long fence. This is our Printed Windscreen.

Full color, edge to edge

We UV print white mesh across the whole panel, so you can use photos, project renderings, gradients, QR codes or a custom brand background color. This is the choice for real estate marketing, stadium wraps and anything that should look like a billboard. Order it as White Mesh Full Color Print.

Either way, UV printing cures the ink instantly on the mesh, giving sharp detail and good outdoor durability. Remember that mesh has open space, so very small text gets lost; keep body text large and let the logo do the work.

Finishing: hems, grommets and wind

How a screen is finished decides how long it stays on the fence. Our printed fence screens are heat-sealed around the perimeter with grommets along the edges, which spreads the load evenly so the screen doesn’t tear at the corners. Hems and pole pockets can be specified when ordering. Fasten every grommet, start at the top, and keep the screen tight; a loose screen flaps, and flapping is what wears out grommets.

Where printed fence screens earn their keep

  • Construction sites: screen the work area, keep dust in, show the project and credit the team. Many municipalities and owners expect a finished-looking fence line. See our construction fence wrap guide and contractor program.
  • Athletic facilities: outfield fences, tennis and pickleball courts, and stadium perimeters with logos, mascots and sponsor panels.
  • Businesses and properties: equipment yards, parking lots, pools, HOAs and events that need privacy and visibility.

Questions to ask any supplier

  1. What is the material and weight? Is it coated polyester mesh or knitted HDPE?
  2. Can it print photos and gradients, or only solid-color vector logos?
  3. What’s the widest seamless print? Will my fence height need a seam?
  4. How are the edges finished, and where are the grommets?
  5. Will I see a proof before production?
  6. Where is it made, and how does it ship?

Our answers: 8 oz or 9 oz PVC-coated polyester mesh; full color or logo on a color; seamless up to 16 ft; heat-sealed with grommets along the edges; instant online proof plus a free mock-up; made in the USA at our Pennsylvania facilities and shipped nationwide.
